4 June 2007Girls Night Out!
Ah the girls love a good romantic story and they got all that and more at The Marlowe theatre over the weekend. Cllr Jan Tranter, our recent mayor, let her hair down along with girl about town Alison Williams, as they enjoyed the Andrew Lloyd Webber- Richard Stilgoe spectacle. The show was choreographed by Arlene Phillips who one time was behind the legendary TV dancers Pan's People. How many of you remember them. (Not me!..ahem) The picture was taken by the other girl in the trio of late night revellers Colette Boland. Another great show at The Marlowe.
Dover Carnival Information Below
On Sunday, the DCAL team led by Miss Dover, Cloe Atkins, went over to the Burstin Hotel in Folkestone to support two ex-DCAL Princesses, Aimee Ward and Alena Gurung compete for places on this year’s Euroregion Team England. A very happy Alena was elected to Team England.
This year’s carnival will again surprise and delight those who come out to watch. International confectioners, Haribo, made a significant contribution to the success of Dover carnival this year by donating over 500 bags of sweets for the children of Dover. Going back to the traditional route for Dover carnival will hopefully enable DCAL to give them all out. In addition to seeing a new marching band from Essex, this year Dover residents will also be able to enjoy excerpts from Blackfish Academy of one of their fabulous productions in Pencester Gardens. Start time to be confirmed.
DCAL Director Sid Perkins said, “The involvement of Haribo and Blackfish Academy, plus a marching band not seen in Dover carnival before would be great news on it’s own, but we are also negotiating with a national organisation for them to provide street entertainment on carnival day. The logistics require some work still but, in principle everything is agreed. I am certain this year’s Dover carnival on July 7th will be a day to remember and those in the town centre on carnival day before the parade arrives will be very well entertained.”
On a final note, because of the Tour de France whizzing through Kent on our carnival day, DCAL is looking for volunteers, over the age of 16, to help with marshalling. If you are interested, please visit their website at www.dovercarnival.co.uk and use the “Contact Us” facility.

Roman Legions take over Castle
This shot above just in was taken at the recent Living History Weekend at the fantastic Dover Castle. Great crowds turned out over the three day period to enjoy the spectacle which was brilliantly staged by The Castle as always. The flavour of the event has been captured above in another stunning shot from

Fowlmead Country Park
What species is this lurking in the undergrowth at the Fowlmead nature reserve, well its none other than davidus bellamitis, a near extinct species once very familiar to us all and much loved, but still thriving in an enthusiastic way in the natural hinterland of the outer reaches of lower Kent. Yes of course it is the very famous botanist and all natural man about bush, Sir David Bellamy, seen here emerging from the deep deep shrubbery and captured au naturelle, and without harm, by local camera ace Phil Medgett.
Great shot
