The Port of Dover secures new lease of life for Waterfront Hotel

The Port of Dover can confirm that it has leased the historic hotel on the seafront, bringing one of Dover’s most elegant buildings back to life. The new owners are no strangers to the hotel industry already running the successful 4* Ramada Hotel in Dover. The two brothers, Mr Rajamenon and Mr Rajaseelan, have a wealth of experience behind them, innovative plans ahead and to celebrate this new beginning, the hotel (formerly known as The Churchill) has been re-named Dover Marina Hotel.

Tim Waggott, Director of Finance and Commercial, said:

“The team at the Port of Dover have worked incredibly hard to find the right partners to take one of Dover’s premier sites forward. We are very encouraged that the new owners will be local businessmen who understand what works for the town and we are excited by the new ideas they have for Dover Marina Hotel. We wish them well in their new venture and await with pleasure the re-opening of the hotel.

The new owners hope to continue the good relationship they enjoyed with Best Western, marketing Dover Marina Hotel as an affordable choice with green credentials appealing to tourists and business travellers alike.

Mr Rajamenon, the new Director of Dover Marina Hotel, said:

“We are delighted to be working with the Port of Dover and looking forward to making Dover Marina Hotel a focal point for the local community and visitors to Dover alike, whether it be meeting friends in the lounge for a drink, enjoying a meal or relaxing with a coffee and taking in the view. We’ll offer great guest service and facilities including a health club and free WiFi internet access plus rooms for weddings and meetings – in fact everything you could want from a local hotel.”

Pictures from 'Meet the Neighbourhood Policing Teams Day'

It is true to say that we are running a tad late with this one, as it was held on the last day of August. But pressure on space prevented us from carrying it sooner. So much demand, so little space! The Port of Dover Policing Unit held an open day back then, to meet up with the general public and show them what they do on a daily basis, also to give advice and to discuss problems where necessary, and a very successful event it was too, meeting lots of local Dovorians during the day. The seafront was buzzing for the event on one of the last reasonable weather days of summer.

Above left we have PC73 Helen Tomkin and PC36 Ian Douglas in full equipment. Both these guys as I understand it are from the Port of Dover Police Marine Unit and were doing an excellent job of meeting people on the day...and an excellent job posing for photos too. On the right hand side we have two young 12 year olds from Astor School having their fingerprints taken and showing a certificate to prove it. Of course its all just a bit of fun, but it showed the excellently keen kids how it's all done. From left is Jared Cuenca and centre Callum Scoines, both proudly holding their certificates aloft....also in the shot is PCSO Jacqui Brook.

Below is the group shot of all or most of those taking part. Picture taken outside The Beach restaurant. Those taking part are members of course of The Kent Police Neighbourhood Team, The Port of Dover Marine Unit, the Kent Rural Wardens, The Dover Community Safety Unit, and Kent Crime Stoppers.
