18 May 2011Pictures of the new Mayor coming shortly....yes here we are.
Hello to the New Mayor of Dover:
The mayor making went off very smoothly at the Town Hall thursday night. The popular choice for Mayor was Cllr Ronnie Philpott who stood without opposition and won the vote unanimously. Cllr Ann Smith, just a mere four years as a councillor, also won the Deputy Mayor role comfortably, although there were four abstentions in this case. But both were a popular choice and Ronnie Philpott who acted as Mayoress for Cllr Sue Jones for the past two years, knows the requirements of the role very well indeed so should slot in well and hit the ground running.
There was much praise for the departing Sue Jones. Her tenure as mayor was very successful indeed. She became a little emotional at one point when saying farewell, which was understandable, as she was saying godbye to a role that suited her to perfection.
Picture above shows the new and the former... left is Cllr Sue Jones whose two year stint as Mayor is over, while on the righthandside in the picture is the new Mayor herself Cllr Ronnie Philpott. Good luck to Ronnie..we are all hoping she has a wonderful year.
A couple of well known faces here in the picture on the left, and both former Mayors of Dover...Cllr Jan Tranter and Cllr Gordon Cowan enjoying the occasion. Picture on the right shows new Deputy Mayor Ann Smith with her husband Mick, who is also a councillor. Mick will act as Ann's escort for the coming year.
Yours truly PaulB editor of Doverforum congratulating District Cllr Sue Nicholas at the event last night. Sue has just been made Chairman of Dover District Council..a terrific honour for Sue and well deserved. See also the comments below on this already. I was delighted to shake her hand and give her a hug.
"It is the proudest day of my life" said Terry Sutton MBE in his speech last night as he was made Freeman of Dover. Terry was delighted to reflect that he can now drive his sheep over Buckland Bridge without paying a toll. Another hugely deserved case and again a very popular choice. Picture shows him with his lovely wife.
Picture below shows forumite and People's Port boss Neil Wiggins, who recently conducted a huge question and answer session here on Doverforum on the new People's Port initiative. Neil went out of his way to fill us in on all the detail of Port ownership. Next to Neil is his wife Lorna. Next to Lorna is Cllr Sue Jones now in relaxed mode after all the ceremonials, then next to Sue and bringing up the extreme right ..is none other than our very own Barry Williams. All looking good. PB.
