Police appeal for witnesses after smash and grab raid.
Kent Police is appealing for witnesses after a smash and grab at a jewellers in Deal High Street on the afternoon of Wednesday the 18 January 2012.
Police were called to the shop at 4.51pm after a report that two men on a motorbike had pulled up outside, used a hammer to smash the window and grabbed a handful of diamond rings before making off.
The two men are believed to have been riding a red and white Suzuki motorbike which they drove off at speed towards North Deal.
One was wearing a black helmet and a blue puffa-style jacket, the other had a white helmet and was wearing a dark-coloured jacket.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Ben Loose said: “We think that the bike was purposefully revved loudly to disguise the sound of the glass breaking and so it would have drawn people’s attention to the incident.
“We have already spoken to a number of witnesses near the shop but would particularly like to hear from anyone who recognises the description of the bike, the two men, or who saw where they went.”
No-one was injured during the incident.

PORT OF DOVER POLICE EXTEND NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH SCHEME
From the Promenade at the western end of the Gateway Flats to the Clock Tower and Cambridge Road, there is now a new Neighbourhood Watch scheme to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour, thanks to PC Martin Dadd and the Port of Dover Police.
With support from South East Kent Neighbourhood Watch, the scheme is being managed jointly by the Police and local residents, a number of whom will act as a general point of contact.
Delighted with the response from local residents, PC Martin Dadd said; “Reporting anything that will allow the Police to act quickly may prevent an offence, result in an arrest or avert anti-social behaviour. The scheme is creating a great partnership between those who live and those who work on the seafront.”
Extending the scheme already in place at the eastern end of Marine Parade, the latest initiative means that the entire area along the Promenade is now covered by a Neighbourhood Watch scheme with further plans to extend to the Marina.
As part of a successful nationwide initiative, residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity, crime or other matter that may be of interest to the Police.

Had this following email from our local PC Paul Tutthill, so I will just reproduce it here as it explains all very well. Not only is it of interest to our members but to our wider readership as well. Many thanks Paul for keeping us informed......here we go...
Hello Paul, hope you're well.
Just a quick email about Kent Police's use of Twitter which will hopefully be of interest to you and other forum members. Most districts throughout the county have a local Twitter page which is updated with relevant information, news and advice. The Dover district account can be found at http://www.twitter.com/kentpolicedover
There is also a main Kent Police account which is relevant to the whole county, and this can be found at
http://www.twitter.com/kent_police
You don't need to have a Twitter account to view the pages, so it's a pretty good way of finding out what's going on locally whether you have a Twitter account or not. I took over the Dover page at the beginning of December and try to keep it updated fairly frequently.
Kind regards
Paul TUTTHILL
