Conservative Budget Rewards the Richest..say the local LABOUR guys.

Wednesday’s Conservative budget has rewarded the very richest in Britain with a cut in top rate tax. The 14,000 people in Britain who earn over £1 million will get a tax cut of over £40,000 each year. But a family with children earning £20,000 a year will be £253 a year worse off, and that’s on top of a VAT rise which is costing a family an average of £450 per year.

Gordon Cowan, Labour Leader of the Opposition on Dover District Council, says:
“The Conservative Chancellor claimed in Parliament that this is a budget that rewards work. His claim is pure nonsense. This is a budget that rewards the millionaires in the Conservative Government and their chums. Across the country just 300,000 will benefit every year from the top rate tax cut. Very few of them live in this district. But the rise in stamp duty on houses worth over £2 million will only be imposed on some 4,000 house sales in Britain each year. For the rest of us prices rise, taxes rise, and services are cut.”

The personal allowance for over 65s is being frozen in cash terms, so that the increases in the personal allowance for everyone else catch up until they are the same. There are 4.77 million over 65s currently paying income tax who will lose out in real terms by an average of £75 a year.

Mike Eddy, pictured left, the Labour Opposition spokesman on finance, says: “This Conservative budget is a disaster for Dover district. Families and pensioners are hit while the richest are rewarded. This is not a budget that rewards work – this is a budget that rewards the rich. Millions are paying more while millionaires pay less. And under the Conservatives our economy has stalled.

The Government is borrowing £150 billion more than they planned; a million young people across the country are unemployed; and growth in the economy is predicted to rise by 0.8% compared to 2.5% forecast last year.”

Jeane Hits the National Magazines!

Yes indeed! Our longtime longterm forumite favourite Jeane Trend-Hill is featured this week in one of the nation's top magazines...Woman.

This magazine is very well known to one and all, particularly to the fairer sex, and of course hugely popular. You can read all about Jeane and her sylph like frame in the pages of the famous magazine, now on sale at a supermarket near you.

Jeane says :

"I recently did a photo shoot and interview called “Don’t tell me I can’t be a size six and happy” for this weeks ‘Woman’ magazine (see pic left.) The shoot was to accompany an article about petite sized women and the prejudices against us. I’ve always been slim; it’s just how I’m made. I sometimes get catty comments and was bullied at school. I realise I’m lucky and I admit I am thankful for the slim gene but in the past there were times when I went to extremes, on one hand not eating enough or on the other, trying to gain weight.

Much is made in the press about derogatory attitudes towards larger sized women, but being thin doesn’t give anyone the right to be rude either - that’s the message we’re putting across. It’s shallow and we need to see past it. We are all beautiful no matter what size or shape we are."
