16 April 2012And now two of the latest Police stories.....
Kent Police Warns...
that it will continue to take tough action against anyone found riding motorcycles in the quarry in Eythorne.
The warning comes after neighbourhood officers working in the local area stopped three riders at the former Tilmanstone Colliery site in Pike Road.
On Saturday (14 April 2012) a 46-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy from Ramsgate – the man riding a trials bike and the boy on a pitt bike, were issued with section 59 warnings under the Road Traffic Act.
On Tuesday (17 April 2012) a 23-year-old Dover man riding a pitt bike was also issued with a section 59 warning.
PC Richard Callaghan said:
“The company which owns the site has made it absolutely clear that nobody has permission to ride on the land. Those who say that they are allowed to ride at the site are wrong and will be dealt with.”
Section 59 warnings mean that if the riders are stopped again and found to be causing a nuisance risk prosecution and having their bikes seized. Police in Dover crackdown on metal thieves
Two men were arrested in the Dover area last week as part of an operation against metal theft.
The two men, aged 19 and 17, were arrested in Ardent Way, Whitfield, just after 1pm on Wednesday 11 April 2012, on suspicion of theft of metal. Reports had been received from members of the public that two men had been seen acting suspiciously. They have both been released on bail pending further police investigation until 21 May 2012.
Dover and Deal neighbourhood officers also joined officers from British Transport Police checking scrap yards in the two towns to ensure that metal dealers are keeping proper records and adhering to legislation.
Chief Inspector Darren Mullins, the District Commander for Dover, said:
"We shall continue to carry out targeted operations against this form of criminal activity. This is in addition to the arrests and intelligence gathering completed during routine patrolling.
"Theft of metal, whether it be lead from roofs or manhole covers from roads, will not be tolerated and our clear intention is that those intent on trying to make money from this crime will be put before the courts."
Here is a picture very much in keeping with the dramatic weather happening all around us ...not taken today however but symbolic of the moment. Yes very rough indeed all week, with extreme weather in the channel and as we mentioned below and on the thread in our forum, see link just below there for pictures, it affected one major cruise liner, the fabulous AIDA Luna from getting in to port. This ship had to abort at the last minute. A second cruise liner got into port, the Ryndam from the Holland America Line, it being a tad smaller, and sheltered here from the gale force weather. Not ideal weather for a cruise is it?...not without strong sturdy sealegs and a steady disposition. However the ferries remained operating, full marks to them...but were probably only for hardy souls!

Bussed Off!
The new season is upon us and despite widespread hopes and numerous expressions of optimism in our forum...optimism that spring might bear more fruit tourism-wise for us here in Dover, yet as you can see from the picture above, it is still all about coaches whisking people away to promising pastures elsewhere. Sadly the picture above tells a sorrowful tale of prospects
not to come. With huge amounts of revenue derived from tourism it is a great pity more cannot be done to seduce passengers into the town. Central Dover could do with the revenue like never before. With a splendiferous seafront for all to enjoy, with nice fine hotels to stay in, with a castle of wide repute…still the tourists go elsewhere.
You will remember the item on our frontpage recently about the spectacular climb of the grand shaft on Western Heights by three local girls in an effort to raise money for the very same...well just over a week later and vandals have got inside to wreak havoc...
Phil Eyden broke the news.. see our Forum..."ten 13-16 year old kids were discovered inside the Shaft yesterday. They've ripped out light sockets and flourescent tubes and WHPS leading light Paul Wells narrowly got missed by an exploding tube hurled down the Shaft. He called the police, but as they were not caught in the act there will be no prosecution. They had ripped down a fence panel to get in."
