1 December 2009Grand Opening of the All New Wedding Fayre at the Thatched Barn, Great Farthingloe Farm.

It was a very busy day in Dover last saturday with spectacular events taking place all over town and all day long too...one could indulge in mince pies, mulled wine, and a chat with Santa Claus as well, and all for free. How exciting! The centre of town bustled like never before. But in the midst of all this going on, was another spectacular Dover event albeit slightly out of town. It was the great and all new Wedding Fayre at the magnificent Thatched Barn at Great Farthingloe Farm. This is an exciting new enterprise and is being hugely welcomed by all.
Despite the hectic schedule, we managed to get over there to see it for ourselves and were glad we did, as it is indeed a very lovely venue for those with blissful romantic attachments on their pink tinted agenda.
The top shot shows the actual moment that our Mayor Sue Jones cuts the tape, and she does so with style. Mayor Sue is very keen to see new business coming into the area and does all she can to encourage it, having extensive knowledge of the machinery of business herself. Also in the picture going from left to right after the Mayor, is Saskia Wadsworth-Smith who was modelling wedding dresses for the day. Also in the shot, last but certainly not least on the righthandside holding the tape, is businesswoman Jane Carruthers, who is the active brains behind the enterprise.
Picture on the left shows one of those exotic wedding dresses modelled by Saskia Wadsworth-Smith..with Mayor Sue Jones merrily lending moral support.

Picture on the left shows our Mayor Sue again.. this time billing and cooing with the pretty turtle doves. There was a cage of these birds each side of the splendid arcade as seen in the long picture above. A very nice touch and oh so romantic!
And now an extract from the www.kentbarn.com website which gives more detail on the venue....
Great Farthingloe Farm is set in 48 Acres of private estate. A beautiful sweeping, flood lit, private driveway extending for more than ¼ mile leads you to open valley countryside in the heart of Kent between Dover and Folkestone on The Old Folkestone Road. The setting is very secluded and perfect for Wedding Ceremonies, Private functions and Evening Receptions.
The Barn itself has been completely restored and modernized to include full disabled access and toilet facilities, heating & subtle lighting, with fully carpeted & level flooring and a secluded and fully enclosed rear garden area which is perfect for the erection of catering/bar marquees up to 12m x 9m. Having 48 Acres of estate and a grassed field area of flat level ground we can accommodate any size of catering or wedding breakfast with marquees and provide plenty of parking.
The whole barn is licensed for Civil Ceremonies and Civil Partnerships which enables an unprecedented amount of flexibility for any couple to transform the venue into their very own bespoke wedding venue. We are aim to provide and present this stunning venue in the most flexible way possible to couples for basic venue hire through to fully inclusive high end wedding packages – the choice is entirely yours.

Below Graham West and Louise Orfilla. On the Wedding Fayre morning Graham immediately below left was playing a selection of delightful tunes. Im sure at one point he threw in an Irish air for our benefit which we greatly appreciated. He plays beautifully. The singer below right is making a big name for herself locally and is none other than Louise Orfilla. She is the best local songbird and sang very nicely at the Wedding Fayre...and is delightful on the eye as well as the ear.
All Pictures by Colette Boland save one. Picture of the long wedding dress and words by Paul Boland.
