I am interested to know if anybody has ever looked at putting a 3G sports pitch in Dover? Is this something DDC have looked at at all?
We all would all like to see better faciities of all sorts in Dover, but one I would like to see and that I think would be of use to alot of people would be a 3G sports pitch.
There is one at Minster and one at Castle Community school Deal and these are certainly heavily used including by a lot of people from Dover.
This is a facility that would be of use to so many sports groups of all ages.

That looks a nice facility and as you say useful. I know that there are certain community groups that play football here in Dover but with poor facilities. I dont know a great deal about it but I onetime went along to see Keef(keith sansum) and Howard who ran a sports group together packed with enthusiastic kids and I also believe Gordon Cowan does similar too. They will be able to comment more when they come on.
I wonder what the costs would be for such a thing.
There are alot of these around now, and they can be used by many sports for all ages ie football, hockey, netball. There were two in Rochester where we lived before we moved down to Dover and my sons youth football team hired one for an hour one evening each week for there training and they were very popular and always in use. Now he is playing in Dover we use the one in Minster for training.

Don't get me going on play facilities!!!!!
Yep in Aycliffe Gordon runs 3 youth teams, we did attempt many big projects but sadly apathy won.
We had plans to take over the church building on old folkestone road, but apathy won so it didn;t happen.
On the recreation ground Gordon changed the drug den to a well used family area, and kid use.
Gordon got the pitch marked out, goals put up, and he even managed to get the Kent County football association, East Kent youth league to allow us to play league games on this pitch.
We then tried to go one step further and get much needed changing rooms which are required for this league, but sadly the District council who gordon got to attend the site, said no way.
We said we would put the portacabin anywhere they wished, still they said no.
in the end we gave up out of frustration!!!
Gordon still runs 3 youth teams at the sports centre every friday.
Gordon's enthusiasm for the youth club continues and hes such a great coach.
So yep lets have more sites, lets have a CAN DO council
rather than moan about the youth, lets take a leaf out of gordons book
quietly getting on and running a club and taking 18 or so youth off the st every week

i think we all would agree with your sentiments.
let's get the kids off of the streets and doing something that they actually enjoy.
wont happen, of course.

A decent athletics track at the crabble would be fantastic, along with a high quality all weather playing surface such as Paul suggests (there are numerous places this could be situated in the town)

What has happened to the proposed facilities that dover town council, in partnership with dover town football club were going to provide on the sports field up on the western heights that they purchased? I believe the proposals were for a new pavillion,an all weather athletics track, football field, floodlights and fencing to provide security. The old pavillion has been demolished but nothing else has happened.Perhaps someone could enlighten us.

As the other football club that operates in that area we were watching that pitch with interest but it does seem to have gone quiet
