This is worrying in the extreme, north Korea plans to test a missile whose flightpath is over Japan, the Japanese have stated that they will shoot it down. The north Koreans said that they would regard such an action as an act of war.Not good.

We're f***ed any which way. There'll be an economically driven cyber-war engineered in the not-too-distant anyway, by the Ruskies or Islamo-Fascists (or a bit of both) before we can say: "Lorks a-lordy, Jeeves, how the blazes did that happen?"
(Cue unison raising of PC handbags, Vic 'n Bob style)
Enjoy the veil of tears while we can, my friends. The options are scant to say the least.
Love, peace and light and Dover,
Andy

North Korea and Japan have a long history of animosity and North Korea appears to have (among its leadership) a nothing to lose attitude. Apart from that, since the demise of or victory over (take your pick) the former Soviet Union there has been far more bomb technology spreading around. It is probably only a matter of time before a terrorist group of some complexion detonates one. On the plus side the heat from such a blast could contain some of the bacterialogical nasties being developed all over the place.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Well, please forgive me then, for a (somewhat frivolous) aside.
I'll stop being concerned about the financial situation and budgets, and instead will go on holidays until debt comes out of my ears. If we're not going to survive, if things are going to change - I shall adopt one of the good Dovorian attitudes from the last lot ... be merry, for today could be our last.
At the same time, if these things are going to beat up some of the bacteriological nasties, good. I've got a stinking sinusitis just now - or is it a nerve infection? I don't know - and the thought of anything that can beat that up and stop it beating me up and stop me wanting to beat my brains out against the wall is welcome.
Excuse me, please.

Dover was a prime target for Soviet SS20 intermediate range ballistic missiles during the Cold War:
"Besides, Dover was now the main reinforcement port for the BAOR and in itself a major target for Soviet SS20s (apparently the target for 1 sea burst and 2 ground bursts of 150kT each)."

I have a copy of the "Protect and Survive" booklet somewhere. It was produced in the eighties to be issued if nuclear war threatened. Must look it out just in case. As the copy on the website below indicates, there is nothing to worry about. All you need to do is get a table and pile some furniture around it. Crawl inside and you will be as safe as houses. Each of those three SS20 warheads only contained the equivalent of fifty Hiroshimas.

You can always Google 'Threads' a full length film made by the BBC in the 80's but make sure you've got a strong stomach.

Better still, watch 'When the Wind Blows' on how to go out with quiet dignety, and don't forget to wear your personal details on a toe tag.

We saw When The Wind Blows in live theatre a while back. Awesome and humbling. We were silent for a long time afterwards.

Later this year the end of the world gets the big screen treatment (yet again) in '2012'. This be will doubtless be a multi special effects blockbuster with a limited plot but it is always fun to see Wahington DC washed away by fire, flood and whatever else they can dream up.

Dont worry guys! I remember many years back when Drax had a rocket in the cliffs at st margarets we all thought it would be the end of the world.
However, we do have the forces of good on our side and I am sure that M will send our man to save the world again....
