07:2374465Brian we featured that story on our frontpage a couple of weeks back. it stemmed from a press release we showed on our frontpage from Labour that suggested the Museum was being considered as a possibility for closing by the current Tory administration..in a cost cutting move. There were lots of posts about it, most notably from Paul Watkins himself who said that the Labour release was in effect mischief making, he stated the Museum would not close.
The story was then featured in all the newspapers several days later.

No Keef I wont..its on our frontpage but to see it one would need to trawl back a wee bit. See the date of story in our All Recent Features then go to the same dates on our frontpage posts and it will be there. I whipped that Museum headline out of the body copy of the release as I knew it would get emotional responses..oooh no..not media manipulation!!lol

14:2374509Actually Paul the story of 30 job cuts and the branding of tin, bronze etc (including Dover Museum and the risk of large cut backs) was in the Dover Express, page 2 on October 7. At least a week before your front page and the yourdover report

14:4674512The post of Assistant Curator for Dover Museum was very recently advertised. I doubt if DDC would have put out a job vacancy if they had plans to close it. That's a vote of confidence in the future of the museum, at least.
If the unthinkable does happen, I would worry about the conservation of the artifacts. It's not just a case of closing the doors and it shuts. The Bronze Age Boat and lots of other items will continue to require careful monitoring and maintenance.

14:5374514if the unlikely does come to fruition i reckon the bronze age boat would disappear up to the british museum, they would have the knowledge to keep in a protected environment with the right temerature and light.
