According to the Dover Express Highways England seems to think that the Folkestone Road is the only suitable alternative when the A20 out of Town is blocked. This was apparently agreed by KCC, Kent Police and the Port of Dover. They must have decided this some time ago. Don't think anyone with a real local interest was consulted.

Folkestone Road was downgraded from an A road to a B road when the new road into town was built. B roads do not require the same consideration or upkeep as A roads and I am sure this has not gone unnoticed by local residents.

In response to Highways England's recent public consultation on managing freight through Kent I drew their attention to the fact that the Folkestone Road was regularly being used as an alternative for local traffic to avoid the TAP 40mph speed limit into town and was an unsuitable route for diverted heavy traffic.

I cannot remember any mention of the use of the Folkestone road by hgvs in the original releases about the A20 roadworks.

Folkestone road residents will now join those of Aycliffe, Snargate Street an others in the locality in having to endure the noise, jams and additional pollution for the best part of this year. And for what?

If the A20 single carriageway out of Dover becomes blocked all hgv traffic leaving the Port should be diverted on to the A2 NOT the Folkestone Road.
