Fantastic stuff, Ian. I'm fortunate enough to live very close to a badgers sett and get up close quite often. I still find it very distressing to see so many lying dead by the roadside, but the counter side to that is that the increased number killed on the roads is a sign that numbers generally are up; I know that the farmers are deeply suspicious of badgers, believing them to be responsible for the spread of TB in cattle. I don't know enough on the subject to argue one way or the other, but all I do know is that they are delightful creatures that I love deeply. British wildlife is something I never tire of seeing.

If you saw Jays (plural), then that is quite a rare sight, so well done to you. They tend to be very solitary birds, and extremely territorial. Beautiful birds with a very distinctive dipping flight; we have a Jay that lives in the trees behind our house in Guston and is an occasional visitor to our back garden. I've been trying to get a photo of him for yonks, but the little bugger is extremely camera shy!
