    The introduction of National Service would not only cost this country billions of pounds, but dilute the professional services with undesirables who would not want to be there. They would have to be trained, fed, equipped, housed and permanently supervised all for what exactly? Avoiding ASBOs, take them off benefits and something vague about 'teaching them respect'? The cost to the economy would make it unworkable and the services wouldn't want them.

    Far better that continual offenders be constructively utilised in work schemes that would benefit our community.
