I think that David Cameron is facing a turning point [maybe even a crisis] in his stint as Tory party leader. He is facing a resurgent government and his frontbench appeared to have gone awol. There is talk of him bringing back David Davis and Ken Clarke which may cause as many, if not more, problems than they solve. Then there is party discipline from his MPs and, with an EU poll in June, MEPs. Can they be kept in check? The idiot who dressed up as Maddy McCann is relevent as this behaviour makes people think that is the way many of Cameron's party members carry on behind closed doors and while that is probably not the case it adds to an unheplful image.
The big problem I see for Cameron, aside from a lacklustre frontbench before and after a reshuffle, is if he feels he isnt getting his message across and starts to slip in the polls. He may then resort to Plan B as did William Hague and Michael Howard and turn his attention to appeal to his core vote, this will please certain sections I'm sure but it may frighten off voters as happened in 2001 and 2005.
