As an avowed anti-European, disagreeing with everything Ken Clarke says about the EU, and being what Sid might regard as a member of the 'right wing' of the Conservative Party that might object, I welcome Ken Clarke's return to the Front Bench.
It does not mean there will be any kind of change in Conservative policy on Europe. All poltical Parties contain differences on various issues that does not mean they are unable to come together overall.
Regarding your point about Stuart Wheeler. Yes, indeed, is it not a good thing that the influence of a large donor is so limited? I take great encouragment for that and compare it with the excessive influence of Labour big donors.
By the way, dont be concerned about the Conservative Party finances as a result. There is an £18m war chest for the election already publically annouced.
