I remember, as PaulB says, this subject being argued out on the very old forum. As I remember I was shouted down for my thoughts but I still feel the same. Babies and dogs do not mix - end of. I don't care how much dog owners protest, I will never change my mind. Yet again a small baby has lost its life because of a dog. Dogs can kill - any dog has that potential. Apart from the danger of attacks, there's also the hygeine thing. Owner takes dog for a walk, dog runs around treading in goodness knows what then goes home and treads same into your carpet. Baby starts crawling - where does he crawl? On the carpet. Yuk! Then theres fleas, ok most good pet owners de flea them but they still come in contact with others who don't.
In reply to Bern - yes I think you're right in what you say but I have to say that as the proud nan of five grandchildren I have never and will never put any of them or any future grandchildren in danger in this way because I would never let a dog near any of them, anywhere, and as far as seatbelts and restraints go - I am red hot on that. No-one travels in our car without a seat belt, safety seat or restraint. I would never over rule something my children had told me concerning their childrens safety, as far as I'm concerned they know best not me.
Right - now I shall wait for all the irate dog owners to have a go at me, but I will say this - can any of you be 110% sure that your dog would never turn nasty - ever? Of course you can't which proves my point!
