Jacqui I am a dog owner and you are right,I have a Bishon Friese a white lap dog,but I agree all dogs can do harm and yes can kill.A dog is loyal to its masters and if they see an intruder then the dog may react accordingly,if the 'intruder' is a baby or a small child then as we have seen it can have a tragic outcome.I was listening to a debate on the radio about a Dachhund who killed a child years ago.
But......Much depends on how the dog was brought up or trained,and of course if it is a single dog and if in a group then they can get more aggresive.
My Bishon is a small dog,but it will protect our house,and if you knock on my door it will react with a bark that sounds as if it comes from a larger dog,yet she is great company,and when she is used to you as a visitor she calmes down.
You will probably be shocked as I think NO dog should be let loose in the Town without a lead on,and some dogs should be muzzled.Dog owners should be fined when they are outside if they are off the lead in a public place,and if they mess and the owner doen't clean up.People will say that this is difficult to enforce,agreed,but if the Dog Warden had the right to ask each dog owner if they had a method to clean up after thier dog,if they didn't just wait a little while and the fine is in the bag so to speak.
My dog is trated for fleas and has her own beautician,but worse that dog fleas are Cat fleas.But you are right no one should leave a child anywhere alone with any Dog,because any dog can do something wrong.
Now I might have upset Dog Lovers and I am one.
