Yes indeed Balls is in... he has thrown his hat into the ring, but lets hope its not a 'balls up' for Labour! He seems to have support but to my way of thinking he would be a disaster. He just doesnt have it, he doesnt have those leadership credentials of warmth wit nor probably wisdom either. I never seen a less charismatic politician...oh ermm hold on... with the possible exception of Nichola Sturgeon, the dreary Scot Nat talking clock..with apologies there to the talking clock.

But suddenly the House of Commons is chock-a-block with charismatic leaders. I mean Cameron our new PM has it, at times it positively shines through, surprisingly. His colleague balanced precariously on the benches beside him, one Nick Clegg also has it...well they didnt get to where they are today without it. Tony Blair who they all aspire to be, had it. Without charisma of some sort you cannot get your message across in these tele-effect days. People yawn, switch off, and go and put the kettle on for a cup o darjeeling.

I dont want to see Labour banished to the Outer Hebrides of political life for the next 10 years, Balls would deliver that level of obscurity in my view. For another thing he is too associated with Brown and at all times looks to be from a different era, an era when we all wore cloth caps and said things like..." eeee by gummm!"

I wonder will Harriet Harman go for it. It will depend very much how she does in the next few months while in the caretaker role. Labour could do worse and it could be popular, as we are all crying out for more women!

But of course the Millibands would be favourites.
