Ah tis a great shame. One of the terrific characters of British Televison has died, or more appropriately the actress who played her has. Kathy Staff who played legendary battleaxe Nora Batty, the scourge of hapless menfolk everywhere, will no longer weild her menacing broomstick.

Yes this formidable figure, Nora Batty, always in a pinney and rollers, and almost always holding onto the aforementioned broomstick, will no longer bring joy to the faces of british viewers everywhere. These appreciative viewers had always rejoiced in the knowledge that they were at a safe distance from the harradan on the other side of the screen.

But really though she was a lovable ol' harradan. A character right up there with Ena Sharples and Capt Mainwaring...ahhh, Last of the Summer Wine will never be the same...or indeed will it even continue. We have lost one more frontline eccentric from our rich heritage of eccentrics.

    Totally loved her I did!
