According to a story in YOUR DOVER the local TV news programme BBC South East are axing their well known presenters Geoff Clark and Beverley Thompson. Its not altogether clear why they are doing it...the statement from the BBC is dressed up in the usual baloney with phrases like..."the audience tell us they want a more journalistic approach etc etc" and more spin along those lines.
This of course is utter cobblers...the reason they are being axed is because of their age. They are being replaced by the attractive fresh faced couple Polly Evans and Rob Smith. Proving once again that once you hit 50 your life in TV is over...ermm if it lasts that long in the first place. What we cant have are tired looking world weary presenters who may have acquired some knowledge over the years! Heavens No!..No...its all about image these days and no mistake.
But what the audience wants most of all are stories directly related to their local area...of this there is no doubt. Spreading the net too far will see a fall off in audience levels and replacing presenters wont stem that fall off.
Outrageous! Ageism itself is past its sell-by and the BBC hasn't yet caught up. I will email them immediately! (And follow it up with One of My Looks!) Seriously - older people (and these days that means anyone over 25) have so much to offer - we must be one of the few cultures that doesn't give seniority and age its due respect.

Yes Bern...the odd thing is you could see the older presenters on this programme kind of bringing the new ones along, particularly so in Geoff Clark's case...little knowing that these same ones would knock you off your very own perch. Train people up at your peril nowadays....

I haven't watched the BBC local news since the Nazaneen Ghaffar Six O'Clock Bikini Special was axed.
An outrage.

It is a shame about Geoff and Beverley - both very good presenters.
I am also disappointed that local news is no longer local - as far away as Oxford, Berkshire and Hampshire; why do we in Dover want to know about a car stolen in Oxford (for example) ?

Sorry, but my own view is that that they are both a bit "old hat". A bit too comfy and oldy worldy.
I would have prefered to have seen Rob and Ceri, but there you go.
Geoff can be a bit of a snob, "I'm Geoff Clark, let me in", that sort of thing.
Roger, wrong channel mate that's ITV with the wide coverage.

Yes I know that Terry - Meridian, but BBC South East is still a very wide area now.
The trouble is that the wider each of them go, it won't be local news, it will be regional and then probably just lengthen that to National.

We have the same problem here by Milton Keynes, with local news on the BBV tv. It's always about what's happening in Peterborough or Great Yarmouth or Cambridge. The weather forecasts don't mention us either, and we're not even named on the local weather maps they put on the screen.
It's really rather irritating, especially as Milton Keynes is a central point with a number of important towns around.

Back in the days of Southern tv and then TVS when they had a studio in Dover, they had a policy of not giving Dover a fair mention in case they were accused of being biased!
At least they don't go head to head with the local news so that you can watch one and then the other.
