would this book be of use to my daughter, in her first year of studying architecture at Uni?

Possibly it would, AP. It's very technical, no waffle, lots of references to styles, movements and architects, and abundantly illustrated with (b&w) photographs. (There are no 'Oooh, that's nice!' or 'What's that thingy up there?' entries.) It's locally published, so there may be a copy in Smiths to flick through before buying.

(btw I hesitated before putting it on this thread and spoiling the flow; but in the end your close-up of the Castle swayed it, so you're to blame . Happy for the post to be deleted.)
