That's what it used to be callled years ago Keith - back in the 90s.

The people who owned the Elmo then, moved out to house asylum seekers there and then in a few short years had made enough money to buy the County Hotel. They have been doing well while the Churchill has been closed.

I met the Blue Bell owners a month or so and they had their own views on how to run it; I gave them my email address in case I could help with anything - not heard from them so assume they're O.K.

When Jean and I moved to Dover to buy the Linden Guest House in 1994, Folkestone Road had so many thriving B & B's and Hotels, now there's not many more than half a dozen.

A number of factors affected that, amongst them was the building of the Travel Inn (as it was called) shortly after we moved here and of course in the late 90s, we had all those illegal immigrants coming in and it killed most of the business here - it certainly affected ours.

Smugglers/boot-leggers call them what you will, also had an adverse affect, so we've had more than our fair share of adverse publicity and reasons for not staying here.
Thankfully most of that adverse publicity has now gone.

What is the name of the new one opposite the station ?

    Roger
