That must be unusual Jeane, a memorial to the Devil - is he buried in Nottingham then ? must be an evil place to live, although it looks quite pleasant in the photo.
Ha ha ha, I didn't realise his hoof was on my head . I don't believe there is actually anyone buried underneath him but he was in an area of Newstead Abbey (Byron's ancestral home) where there are several graves.
At the risk of spoiling a perfectly good thread, the statue is more likely to be of Pan. The Victorians were quite fond of classical references and with Byron dying in Greece the connection becomes even more possible.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.
