07:5712689He had a good long life, a reward for his service to this country. Now it is time for him to rest, he has done his bit.
One more tenacious link to WW1 gone.

07:5712690It is indeed very sad, but a great tribute to these guys for living so long and giving us all the benefit of their experiences - forgive ? maybe: forget - never.

18:0812731isnt it great when we get veterans to Hellfire Corner?
Does anyone else remember the lady who was a plotter during the Battle of Britain joining the RAF re-enactors, sitting at their plotting table and moving markers around the board?
When we lose these people we really lose very speical people.

is that the lady photographed up at the castle, in the world war 2 tunnels?
excellent post from roger there, forgive of course, but never forget, it would be too easy to forget the horrors of the great war.
medieval style battles with modern day weapons, the protagonists on both sides were mostly little more than children.
seduced by posters, they must have thought when they went it would be like "cowboys and indians".
i doubt if it would be possible for us to understand the fear and shock, when reality set in .
