  Remember that scene from Bladerunner where there is a giant advertising screen on a skyscraper with a Chinese woman (talking Chinese), blasting its message across the eerie dystopian postnuclear urban landscape ?
  
  Walking across the Market Square one bleak, dusky evening recently, a Proustian memory was triggered.

  Just returned from Romania and whilst driving through a small town they had a big screen in their town centre(it was genuinelly carrying an advert for the the Bank of Transylvania). They also had another screen suspended above the main street, and no one was watching theirs either, just like ours.
