  An exhibition on at the moment in Durham, based on blood sports, feature`s this painting from 1844 as the centre piece. Called `The Otter Speared`, it portrays an otter speared and writhing above a pack of baying hounds. The painter is Sir Edwin Landseer who also sculptured those famous lions in Trafalgar Square. The painting has been withheld from public view until now for being too gruesome. Looks worse than fox hunting. A nostalgic painting from Victorian times, or an example of the vulgar side of Victorian society?

  I have a large picture of a hunting scene on the wall of my lounge. It shows dogs killing the murderous fox. We are too squeamish about such matters these days.

  I quite agree Sid. We live too isolated from nature and that makes us too soft.

  Even as a veggie I can see that! Children in particular often fail to see the connection between the food on the plate and the animal in the field. Sad.

  i dont agree on any hunting what so ever no need for such as the posh call "sports" on defenceless animals.
