For a couple of years now I have had monthly blood tests at Buckland. In the past it was the norm that you phoned for an appointment. Now however you just turn up morning or afternoon.
Since the new "hospital" opened only once have I had to wait, even then there was only one person in front of me. I turn up and go straight in. This facility is sadly underused and I know not why. Perhaps people are choosing to go to their GP instead.
If you need a blood test I urge you to go to Buckland. The danger is, the Trust being what they are, it is possible this facility will be taken away from us.

I posted the same as that on the Hospital thread Terry, my GP's surgery booked me in for a week ahead so I took the form down to Buckland and was in and out within 10 minutes.

I went for an X-ray this morning at Buckland having been told I did not need an appointment I was prepared for a longish wait. I arrived shortly after 9.35 and was home an hour later (having caught the bus after a short wait) so no complaints from me,

Like Vic I'm on Warfarin for AF and have regular blood checks. Up until now I've gone to Buckland every time but have just been transferred to the Health Centre in Maison Dieu Road. My GP is at Peter Street but they don't do the clinic there. Shame because I like the clinic at Buckland, specially with Jo Hannent doing the blood with a smile and a joke each week - she is lovely!

Why on earth would you continue to go to Canterbury for your warfarin check when you can get it done in Dover? Are you mad??
Patients who need to have their blood checked frequently have to go to Buckland. There are also clinics at several chemists in Dover where you can be referred to, or the Health Centre. My levels have been steady for a long time now so I have to go to the Health Centre.
Whatever your needs you can go to one or the other - in Dover, so why go to Canterbury? For goodness sake Vic, use your head!!

I go there because my wife is going there to, her treatment to her eyes is only done at Canterbury.Anyway up till now I have been told because my level goes up and down I must go to Canterbury but once my level gets like yours then it can be done local but I am happy to carry on at this time where I am anyway.
But thank you for your views which I understand .I have only been going two weeks. Not the same for my wife who has been going over 3years.

Ok Vic, I apologise then. I didn't know your wife had to go too. However when I first started on Warfarin I was up and down too but still had to go to Buckland. Just seemed a long way to go for you that's all I meant.

No need to apologise what you said was right.+you did not know about my wife. When I was put on Warfarin my letter told me to report to Canterbury I would have been happy going to Dover at that time.

I have a PSA blood test every three months and always use Buckland. My surgery are not too keen on it as I think they get paid for doing the test, but I explained to them the bus drops me off right outside the door at Buckland whereas if I use the surgery it entails a very long walk from the bus stop (Frith Rd. to Peter St.) and I am not very mobile these days.
Like Terry, I have never had to wait at the new Clinic, mind you I never waited long at the old one eiher when we had to phone for appointments. I used to arrive early and more often than not I was seen before my time.
