Vic - I was making a facetious point that you cannot claim one man has been an economic disaster for Dover.
The reason for Dover's problems are a combination of factors and no, you cannot put the blame on the council either though the planning department (not a political matter) is not innocent.
The geographic position with Canterbury sucking in retail with a much wealthier hinterland is one reason.
One other is the Port not doing anything in support of Dover town with its Charter preventing it from doing so. Perhaps Dover Port has prospered despite the Charter, not because of it.... other ports less advantageously placed prosper and do a lot more to help their associated towns too, after all.
It seem to me that some people are just scared of change and will find reasons to oppose any change.
