Bomb at Connaught Park?

  I've just heard that a hand grenade has been found in Connaught Park and the Police are evacuating the area.

  Apparantly it has been reported as a WW2 Mills bomb. The Police are cordoning off the park prior to the UXB squad arriving.

  Absolute false alarm. The Police had cordoned off an area at the top of the park. About 20:15 the bomb disposal unit turned up, an officer had a sniff around and then retreated back to the lorry and drove off. The Police left the scene ten minutes later. It appears as if the whole thing was a false alarm.
  
  If anyone is annoyed with me for this non-story, I apologise, but please have sympathy. I rushed up the park, camera in hand, and got absolutely drenched and frozen for precisely nothing. I now have a camera full of useless snaps of a parked squad car and some tape.
  
  At least I tried to get a scoop!

  Phil not at all you did absolutely the right thing..sorry you got drenched and frozen but very often these potential stories can fizzle out. But then on the other hand you almost got a scoop...
  
  Speaking of bomb scares..I was here in Dover a wet day, and someone left a green packet or bag on the little pier opposite Boland Towers. The place was cordoned off and the Bomb Squad came. It was quite a drama, almost straight from the TV and I had a full view of the drama as it unfurled.
  
  I thought.."Jeez is this what they mean about frontline Dover !!"
