I was in there last week and have to say there were very few customers in, be a real shame if it does close.

I used them when they were in town but have never been up to their Whitfield store. Soon after they moved up there a staff member told me that they were regretting the move and business was not good.

I don't think we should speculate just now; if you don't start a rumour it can't come true.
Where do you go for your DIY bits now then Howard - is there anywhere in Town ?
Like I used to say - use it or lose it. We really don't want to lose B & Q and there's nothing to say that our's is closing.

Wilkinsons in Folkestone has all that I need Roger. I am not one for retail parks, they look depressing to me I like a busy town centre.

If the bus dropped you off outside B&Q it might do a bit more trade. Not everyone has a car and the bus stop is miles away.

I'm sure that would help Alec.
That would be something that B & Q should talk to Stagecoach about.

Very true Alec, I often used B&Q when they were in town but have never been in the one at Whitfield.

My dad used B n Q when it was in the town as it was in walking distance for him and saved him using the car as he didnt enjoy driving as much as he got older. When it moved to Whitfield he never used it again instead using the Stuff shop in London road for odds and ends, screws, etc.I think quite a few Dover people did the same.A friend of ours who worked in the town store and the one at Whitfield said the same as mentioned previously. The trade is nowhere as good as it was in the old shop.

A failure of market research, older people are more likely to be DIY fans because they have more time on their hands usually, in fact B & Q gave a discount on Wednesdays to the over 50s.

Major item on the BBC late news last night about Kingfisher closing 60 B&Q outlets over the next 2 years, with most staff being transferred to Screwfix.

That's what we're talking about Peter, but someone started a rumour that our B & Q is one of those closing, but there is no evidence this is the case.

It was the busiest I've seen it when I was using my discount card this morning, either people getting in quick before it closes or the usual Easter rush.

Have just been to the store and asked about the rumours of their closure, they denied the store is considering closure and said expansion may be in order.

A new shop is now open on the high street opposite town hall called Light and Power Solutions, worth a visit for all electrical and lighting needs (I purchased some LED bulbs today). They also stock some hardware items, useful if you can get to the retail parks, prices are very competitive. Helpful staff that said they even will deliver locally for free.
