    Merseyside man charged


    HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) investigators have charged a 42 year old man from Southport Merseyside with the attempted importation Class A drugs,

    On 17th October 2008, Philip Tasker was stopped by UK Border Agency (UKBA) officers at the Inbound Freight Controls, Eastern Docks,

    During a search of the British registered Citroen van he was driving, UKBA officers discovered a number of black taped wrapped packages within boxes marked bacon. The contents of the packages tested positive for heroin.

    Philip Tasker has been released on bail and is due to appear at Dover Magistrates Court on 23 October 2008.

    Georgina Myles, spokesperson for HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), said:

    "Individuals with information relating to illegally imported goods are encouraged to contact HMRC's confidential hotline number on 0800 59 5000 or email customs.confidential@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk"
