19:5032661Does anybody remember the British Railway children`s Christmas parties? And were they open to anybody? I have another old photograph I`ve looked after for years, and it shows the Railway social club party at the recently demolished co-op hall. The photograph is dated 17 February 1955. Must be a good number of Dover children on there, including myself, plus a number of adults at the back. Would look nice enlarged on display at the Dover museum I`d have thought. Some years, there was a pantomime visit instead. Any more info?

20:1932666Same wavelength Howard, more humour needed in this world. I might be in a frock there, but I soon grew out of wearing one thank goodness. We had to show a ticket inside, but if you didn`t have one, you had to pay a penalty, depending how far you`d travelled from.

20:3232672Sorry Vic, only got this one. Perhaps there maybe some Engineering Works children among them. Must have been a popular venue for parties then? Post Office as well. The photograph is stamped on the back; J G WHORWELL & SON, photographers, 7, Bench St Dover. I have their phone number if you want it. It`s Dover 864.

21:0132676i always remember as a kid going to firms christmas parties in silvertown/canning town.
they were paid for out of the factory workers wages, putting a bit in every week, all kids were invited, not just those of the employees.
we took it for granted at the time, thinking back, we used to have a slap up jelly and ice cream do, endless confectionery, then given a present to go home with.
all paid for by the poorest workers around.
makes you think a bit.

10:3632698We my brothers and I used to go to the Pfizers Christmas parties at the Winter Gardens in Margate,it was packed and you have to remember that Pfizers then was much smaller than it is today.
My Dad was a security guard there and my Grandad was in despatch, all that Hi-Karate aftershave I think I still have got some 'staff rate'now,I also used to play in thier under 16's football team, the shirts were red but must have been over boiled because they turned Pink......very macho..
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

12:5632768Happy memories of the Staff and Partners Xmas parties at Linklaters in London.
My small son caused problems pulling the clown's trousers down in the show one year and the maintenance staff must have had severe headaches collecting the 'lost' helium baloons from the 15 storey atrium!
Santa was there with presents for all and the food was superb, we even snuck in wine.
It's a great pity that the economic downturn made them stop it all and the eventual dismissal of myself and many, many other staff....booo, hiss.
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........
