    Notwithstanding the size or age of ship my move from warden to shepperton was a step up. Most wanted to be on the shep which although small and old was regarded as the prize job. Probably because it had one trip each way in 12 hours so wasn't the mad rush that the other ships suffered with two. The Invicta was a "cattle ship" and we all dreaded the possibility of being moved to it. I speak from catering side of course but the train ferries were often laid alongside in dunkirk or even in the wellington dock - where once i was put over the side to paint it - wouldn't happen with today's contracts I suspect.
