Dover's Tribute to the United States - December 1946
The below view down Maine Crescent in prefabricated Dover illustrates a selection of the myriad of streets of prefabricated houses in Dover England now springing up in parts of the town ravaged by high explosives. Though the breadth of England and the waters of the Atlantic now separate it's inhabitants from the thousands of United States troops who were stationed there during the war, names like Roosevelt, Winant, Washington, Boston, Carolina and Kentucky will remain as familiar words. In selecting the names of US Presidents, States and Cities for 'Prefabricated Dover" there is coupled the port's appreciation of help received from the US in the form of food, clothing and other essentials during the days of need for it's homeless inhabitants.
