There isn't one anymore, supposed to be a permanent fixture there and in Deal according to Charlie.

Although there can be a Doctor at minor injuries in Deal, there is no longer a weekend Doctor and the service is closed and has been for roughly 18 months.
Dover is still covered by a Doctor from 6.0pm until midnight, seven days per week. At times a practitioner is available when a Doctor is unavailable. The service gets extremely busy and an appointment is necessary before you attend.

Had to go to Buckland earlier for a blood test so firstly checked the website for times which showed 0800 - 1600 hrs closed 1300-1330 for lunch. Rang the hospital to make sure and was told 0900 - 1545 with no mention of lunch break. When I got there stuff was scrawled in fibre tip pen over the opening hours staff holidays which meant last call would be 1445 hrs. Annual leave seems to taken in odd days which is rather confusing, 24 in front of me so they had their work cut out.

I think part of the problem is being a GP is not promoted as being as important as a hospital doctor so no perceived glory, if that is the right word. Whereas a GP has a lot more basic knowledge as he/she deals with so many different illnesses both simple and complex, they also do minor surgery.
Receptionists do put up with a lot but at the same time that is part of the job and always has been. There are good ones who are brilliant but also a lot of bad ones who should not be in the job as they are not people friendly.
I wish there were more telephone consultations, quite often that is all that is needed, a few minutes where information can be given instead of a lengthy wait among the inevitable coughs and bug carrying people in the waiting room.

I have been with the same surgery since 2002 and all the reception whether permanent or temporary/holiday cover have been pleasant and efficient although I understand the odd dragon still survives elsewhere. One GP did give telephone consultations in his short time there but the problem persists of some people insisting on seeing a doctor when an experienced nurse is available. In an age when all but the elderly or computer phobic can find info on NHS choices priority must be given to those who really need to see a doctor.

I'm surprised more surgeries haven't latched on to this yet.

Post 9: did the medics give any indication of when you might expect the swelling to go down?

I must have just missed you! Overheard at Buckland MIU a little later: "Why am I having to wait - I pay my taxes and I don't like being discriminated against for shouting". (I witnessed no discrimination. Unfortunately.)
