The sign is quite historic really, because, I think, it dates back to the days when all parked cars had to display lights at night, either their sidelights or one of those little parking lights that used to be attached to the car windows. Motorists would be fined if they were not displayed. It would appear that on this stretch of road, those lights were not required. What a pity the whole sign does not survive - it would have been a good exhibit for Dover Transport Museum - still could be, I suppose, if someone was able to restore it.
