  Just FYI...
  
  Will be 50 years on 3/2/09 since he passed away with the Bog Bopper, Ritchie Valens and Peterson (the pilot) in that freezin' cold night after his gig at the Surf Ballroom.
  
  To commemorate this event I have been asked to say a few words on BBC's Radio Kent this Sat 31st (Dave Cash's show) sometime between 20.00 - 21.00.
  
  Long may the music live on.

  I'll make a point of listening in to the anniversary show, 50 years! I was only a twinkle in my Dad's eye then.

  Well done there BuddyG! I was always a great fan of Buddy Holly. Great that you have been invited on the radio to mark the occasion.Good luck with that.
  
  He died so young yet left us with a hell of a legacy of amazing songs that are still popular today. What would he have accomplished if he'd lived on...

  I was brought up on Buddy Holly; I was just 10 when he died, my older brothers were always playing his music and the other middle/late 50's singers.
  
  I still play his CD's and have played his records over the last 50 years; I must have every record he ever made. I still get a lot of pleasure from listening to them - as I did when Jean and I came to see and listen to you as Buddy G; I could sing every word - in my head.
  
  If I remember, I'll try and listen in.

  By chance I came across the Radio 2 play late last night, Crying, Waiting, Hoping ...The Hour the Music Died, following the 24-day tour through the frozen Midwest states with performers shivering in their unheated coach. Then Buddy Holly abandoning the coach, chartering a plane which takes him, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper to their deaths. Excellent documentary
  Did anybody else catch it?

  I missed that but its a very interesting story alright as I know the general gist. There is an evening of Buddy Holly high octane stuff on BBC4 tonight for the afficionadoes. Could be good...

  Dang! I missed that one too, would have been a good one to listen to. Buddy abandoned the coach after his drummer got frostbite it was so cold.
  
  It's rumoured that he only took the plane so he could get ahead early to get his (and the Bopper's) laundry done (it was J.P.Richardson's name that was on the charter for the plane).
  
  If he hadn't been in dispute with his previous manager over unpaid royalties he may never had gone off on the tour (in addition his new wife was pregnant).
  
  Recommend Paul Mcartney's documentary (The Real Buddy Holly story) over most of the items out there, the Buddy Holly story (with Gary Busey) is great entertainment - but like any dramatisation it has some real howlers in it!

  I saw all three last night and enjoyed them all - the last one less so tho'.

  Well done Roger as some stamina required for all three. I watched the Buddy Holly Story with Gary Busey and it was very good. There was always that air of impending doom as you knew what was coming for him after so short a spell at the top. His musical legacy is awesome.

  I enjoyed watching the Buddy Holly Story, it was good to hear such great songs from an era that changed music forever
