10:2368842Another interesting picture Kath, and I haven`t seen this one before, despite having seen many tram picture`s, including them being set alight unceremoniously out Lewisham road when they were finished with!
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

11:5468852Bob says he cannot understand why some of the old trams were burnt and some went for scrap - maybe it was a case of supply and demand with the parts which were wanted? so some were saved for the scrap items.

12:3268855They all went for scrap Kath. The idea of burning them out there was to get rid of the furnishing`s, and just leave the scrap metal. Some trams weren`t permitted out on the River route due to height restriction`s I believe, so would be scrapped wherever they were on withdrawl, like the steam locomotives.

13:4968858I think we should introduce electro-buses, and close to car-traffic Pencester Road, leaving only the buses to circulate there. It would leave Dover Town-centre with a fairly long pedstrian route. The taxia that park outside Boots could put up a waiting queue on the side road leading to the Golden Lion and the round-about.

19:0068899Whoever sanctioned taxi parking outside Boots etc., needs their head testing. They are a positive menace, overdrive the pavement when pulling in, reduce the pavement width for pedestrian and encourage other cars to pull in there too, usually to use the HSBC ATM.
I thought the law on private taxis was that you had to book one, not hail it in the street. If so, this is nothing more than a free car park for taxis nearest to the busiest shopping corner for pedestrians in Dover. Taxi parking here should be removed soonest.

19:2868911the taxis there pay good money to the district council for the privilege of picking up customers.
the levy paid must be very high as most cannot afford to buy indicators for their hackney cab.

Another picture of Cannon Street, you can see the Star Inn in Stembrook behind St Marys Church
(The Star Inn was where Thomas Longley the fat man of Dover was licensee)

21:136893931st December 1936 the last train ran.... 1st January 1937 East Kent Buses took over the route.
Interesting one that Kath - I have another, presumably only a very short time after, with the scaffolding going up for the new buildings to go up.
Been nice knowing you :)
