Have enjoyed reading the forum for the past year, and it now looks like we will be able to move to Dover in the New Year
We have two of the daftest cats on the planet, and I would be grateful if anyone would be kind enough to suggest some cat safe roads? We're moving from Sevenoaks, so have a decent-ish budget and I really like Park Avenue, but wonder how busy it gets? We're looking for a large detached house - both run businesses from home (long before the pandemic) so need good office space - but cat safety comes first for us - the rest we'll manage.
Cheers!

Thanks so much Victor - we did wonder with the school, and potential for through route, and they're an exceptionally daft pair...
If anyone is thinking of selling such a house on such a road....
Happy New Year!

Look at monastery close(old Castlemount school site), Danes Ct, some areas of Elms Vale or perhaps one of the closer villages (Guston, pineham, Church Whitfield) if desperate maybe the new development in Whitfield (they'll be building you a new bridge and fast bus soon)
Park avenue and the roads off of it are used as a rat run frequently and are extremely busy at school time most of River is good, but you'll struggle to find houses with the character of those in Park ave.

Mr Barrington is right in what he has wrote ,but the bay is a very nice place to live with very big homes over looking the sea and the village is small I come from there and great walks over the cliffe, well not over them ha ha. I mean along them about 5miles from Dover but as I have already said around River is nice with some big homes but the one Ilive in is not one of them. good luck.
I like the photo of the cat.

I live at Frith Road end of Salisbury Road which is just off Park Avenue, I have yet to hear of any cats being injured in the last 20 years and it is not a rat run. There are a few extra cars at school times dropping off or collecting children but they do not usually cause any problems. If you like wild life in the garden we often get squirrels, there are also foxes that appear occasionally in the area as well as various wild birds, bats, slow worms, frogs and dragonflies.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Sounds lovely. Wildlife can be so entertaining.

Especially when avoiding stepping on a present from the cat like a live slow worm or dead mouse.

Thank you Jan! We also get 'presents' of slow worms where we are at the moment - so good to know they'll be coming to a home from home:) One of the attractions of Dover to us is the wonderful wildlife in the area.

Park Avenue and Castle Hill Avenue can be horrible at school times, even though it's a nice area. My advice would be find a nice are and check out the nearby schools and look at school end and finish times. That said, I wouldn't discount it just because a school is nearby but having 5 around does cause fun at times.
As far as wildlife is concerned, as most houses are not far from countryside, you'll get loads, we've had slowworms, kestrels, foxes, frogs and robins to name but a few and I'm 2 minutes drive from the town centre!

We have so much wildlife out at River ,I can sit in doors or go out doors in the garden and the birds and squirrels do not even runaway any more we have a fox that sits in the doorway late at night and my cat just its on the car roof looking at it. and or two river rats come over the wall at times but they just run along the wall but not seen them of late I have a sound machine in the garden we can not hear it but they do so they stay away but the birds and other wild life take no notice of it only the rats.

We also have cats and i,d like to think they,d gained a bit of road sense over the years, trouble is like so many roads, some drive like complete arseholes and couldnt care less whats in the way,i can understand your concerns and for your piece of mind i would probably consider a Cul-de-sac which i would if finances would allow, that said some cats will wander for miles and cross many roads regardless where they live.Hope you find somewhere suitable.

It's very difficult really as there's a lot more cars on the road

Thanks Keith & Andy.
These two are half-feral and very, very, daft indeed. No road sense at all...
- in part because our current road was so rutted drivers could only manage 5mph - been resurfaced now, so worried every time they go out.
My husband is unable to drive and likes to get himself independently to a station - so adds another difficulty.
Thanks to everyone who kindly took the time to reply , so appreciated.
A very happy new year!
