Keith - sorry to disappoint you.

Mrs T wrote 2 books, The Downing Street Years (1993) and the Path to Power (1995). I have an original hardback copy of the Downing Street Years in which she characteristically uses proper English and refer to 'chairman' throughout when referring to a person or position ('chair' used correctly only when reference to the abstract is made, ie 'Cecil took the chair' as opposed to 'Cecil, the chairman')

If your edition is using 'chair' then that is the publisher gone all p.c. - not the fault of Mrs T for butchering the language.

She would certainly have used the same language is the Path to Power as well.

A great lady who was right on most of the important issues of the day.
