19:1833821This Saturday, 28th November, sees the first of what we hope will become an annual Christmas Market in aid of The Dover War Memorial Project; it's in St Mary's Church Hall from 10am till 6pm with refreshments available. We have sold out! 15 stalls ranging from cards and jewellery to toys, all with a Christmas theme.
It's being run by volunteers from The Friends of The Dover War Memorial Project - we're hoping to attract members as well as raise funds, so please show your support for a genuinely local initiative by coming along even it's just for a coffee and a mince pie........spread the word.......we want the place packed out from start to finish!

19:3333826And welcome from me too Andy. What a good idea, I love Christmas Markets and for a great cause too. That something else Howard is the Christmas light switch on at Market Square. I will be up at Farthingloe for the Wedding Fayre until 4ish but will call in there later for a coffee and some Christmas cards

22:4733842pity there are so many events running at the same time.
just means that the money collected for good causes gets spread a little thin.

08:4333856Welcome Andy
I did send round a circular ermail about that, I'll look it out and send it again as a reminder.
That can be a problem Howard and I'm not sure how to resolve it; even if there was a central register of events and people could organsie their event NOT to coincide with others, they probably would still want to run it on their preferred date, even if it meant that footfall would be reduced.
Good Luck for Saturday Andy and hope the weather is kind to us all.
Roger

08:2634020That's not an early start PaulB, it's not opened until 11.00. What time do you normally get up then ?
For all those budding brides and their other halves and families, there's a Wedding Fayre today, starting at 11.00 at the big barn at the top-end of Folkestone Road, on the left, where the old Channel Tunnel "village" was.
I was there yesterday late afternoon and it is an amazing place - just right for a wedding venue.
I believe our newest member Andy will be there, with his qualty fabric business.

08:5834025Im normally up very early Roger as you can see from my forays on here...but no what I mean its early for a photo job. The Mayor is at the Wedding Fayre at 10.30...I will be there to get the picture all being well, usually photo ops are a bit later in the day. Although was at an even earlier one recently when I had to drag my old bones over the the launch of the Hi Speed train at 6am or something. All the politicians were lovely and fresh even at that hour of the morning, all done out in their whistle and flutes and tastefully scenting of Davidoff. Got good pix that day..were used all over, not just on here.
Yes good luck with the event at St Mary's..hope you raise lots of funds Andy and team.
By the way Andy like your Pink Floyd signature thingy!

11:0334062Thank you deeply, Vic, as always. I know the Friends of the Dover War Memorial Project have been working very hard towards this - as indeed, they have been doing on a heap of different supportive activities since the moment Andy and Michelle and Brian first mentioned a year ago the idea of creating a Friends group
Here we never cease our work in memory and honour of our Fallen. Within this recently are the many phone conversations and letters we've been having from people delighted about the new plaque and the thought their Loved Ones can be remembered in this way. There are already thirteen new names on the list for 2012; we're looking forward to visiting their relatives and friends.
That we do not forget means so much to so many. There have been tears shed, yet also great joys. It is truly a privilege to be doing this work of Remembrance.
