as the summer holidays get into full swing, thought i would post this reassuring notice that was on the sea front notice board this morning.
there was a thread a while back where members were doubtful of the cleanliness of the water.

Yes Howard, Its good to see that notice on the Beach and yes indeed we did run a thread on the Forum which DHB picked up on. So much so, that they sent us a press release on water quality in the Harbour showing the DHB environment team at work. Bob Goldfield gave us a quote saying they are continually striving for excellence ........... ( see page 2 in all recent features may28)

i will refrain from comment on that keith!!
don't forget though bathing water around the whole of the u.k. is a lot cleaner in general than it was years ago, also bear in mind the warning about going in after heavy rain.

This photo from 1956 shows the sewage outfall diffuser off Shakespeare Beach disgorging copious quantities of the end products of the Dovorians of the day. I believe that the pipe has been extended much further out to sea since then.

that picture would apply to most coastal towns at that time, thank goodness things have changed.
I remember paddling at Dymchurch amongst stuff that looked remarkably like pooh! Thank goodness those days are long gone.

In those days you couldn't swim in the sea off Southend, you just went through the motions.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.
