Community Safety Day - 19 July Pencester.

A packed free day out for the whole family, with an exciting range of high-flying demonstrations and displays, is coming to Pencester Gardens on Saturday 19 July from 11am to 4pm, with the Community Safety Day 2008.
The event is being organised by the Dover District Community Safety Partnership, and features a range of displays, including a fly-past from the Kent Air Ambulance and the Coastguard Spotter Plane, circumstances allowing. There will also be a dramatic display from Kent Fire and Rescue, who will be cutting into a car following a simulated road traffic collision, working with St John's Ambulance. There will be other demonstrations from a range of organisations, including the Kent Police dog handling team and a CCTV arrest scenario.
More than 25 other agencies involved in community safety in the Dover District are arranging exhibitions including Children's Centres, Kent Safer Schools, Dover District Council, RNLI, Kent County Council, Kent Crimestoppers, the Crown Prosecution Service and the Primary Care Trust.
The event will provide the chance to find out about the massive range of work helping to keep Dover District a safe place to live, work and visit. Representatives from the 'Talk To Us' campaign will also be at the event, to answer questions and hand out questionnaires. The campaign has been launched by the Community Safety Partnership to find out your views on the issues that affect you.
Nadeem Aziz, Chairman of the Dover District Community Safety Partnership and Chief Executive of Dover District Council said: "We are looking forward to another successful Community Safety Day. The days are a great day out for the family and provide an opportunity to show the community how the partnership works and what we are all doing to make our district an even safer place."

- 14 July 2008 06:183969Well Howard there will certainly be enough police on hand to carry out the removal as they are a big part of the event and take part in the displays/demonstrations. I see on the thread about the Funday( or was it the Lucky to have Pencester thread) that there were some problems with drunks again. But to my certain knowledge there was a Mobile Police Station in the park that day and fully manned too....so not sure why this problem isnt more strongly tackled. Will be interesting to take note of how it goes next saturday.
In case anyone missed it in the body copy of the press release at the top..
there will be a flypast at this event from the HM Coastguard spotter plane, the one that does a display every year at the Regatta, and also by the Kent air Ambulance...that should be exciting!

It has a busy programme of displays and there is a scheduled flypast at 2pm...but as ever with flypasts..weather permitting. The one scheduled the other week in Capel was cancelled due to weather and I had positioned myself up there in a good location to get a few shots...sigh it didnt happen as weather turned awful. But optimism for today.

We had only planned to attend for an hour or so, but Miss Dover and her court had so much fun we stayed until the end.
It was a great opportunity for the whole community to come together in a friendly relaxed atmosphere, and join together in celebrating some wonderful and yet often taken for granted agencies.
Well done to those who organised it. I have one small suggestion, why not hold a raffle next year with the proceeds going to an agreed charity agreed in advance by all the groups involved. Each group could nominate a charity of their choice to go into a hat, and then one charity is drawn and the money donated. Just a thought, but sure was a great event. - 20 July 2008 08:174184iT was certainly a very good event Mandie with a large turnout. This was one of the best turnouts Ive seen in the Park. I wonder if the crowd were sucked into the event by the loud music as it certainly was loud, but enjoyable, and the DJ chap was doing a good job. The volume would have reached the main thoroughfares of Dover and people would have popped around to see what was going on.
The Politicians were out in force. Gwyn Prosser Labour MP came to see the various services in action...and Charlie Elphicke Conservative Candidate for Gwyns seat was there too with his young family..and little doggie. Ive got a nice picture or two of Gwyn and Charlie together enjoying the event in the hot bright sun..coming shortly to our frontpage.
The various displays and demos added to the blissful occasion and there was a super flypast but a bit late in the day for me as I missed it. Could kick meself I could.
The new play area for young kids was hugely packed and a definite success. Great to see the kids enjoying it. I took a picture, but was cautious about taking a picture there,uncomfortable, as you here stories of the guy with the camera getting arrested kind of thing..
All n all a very successful event. Pencester Gardens continues to entertain the people of Dover and all for FREE, very important in these cash strapped times.email: dover7@msn.com
