00:4111983This is something that has been sticking in my craw for many months, why o why is meridians tv coverage Sussex based it came to a head with the lack of coverage of the marching band. I am led to believe its a condition of the franchise that they cover the whole region, may i suggest that everyone complains to the IBA about the lack of coverage from this area. I would love to here that all our councilors and our mp have led the way. But i doubt it will happen as they haven't the bottle to take the press on.

07:5811986Guz - there are articles on Dover now and again, I wouldn't say that they ignore us here, maybe it's case of they felt another news item was more important (or as you say, another Town's news is deemed to be more important.)
I'd like to see the Town of Dover mentioned on the weather forecast map more - some times we get a mention, but more often its Folkestone or Deal.
I'd love to see more articles on Dover -on both stations.

08:5911989Guzzler a few months back all the commercial TV stations across the nation trimmed back alarmingly, as indeed at the same time did the regional newspapers like KM for example.Following a massive downturn in ad revenue in this nasty recession, these media organisations swung their aces very quickly as they were faced with the prospect of not being able to meet their costs. We have seen the effect at The Mercury for example.
Meridien News went further and further west grasping a larger area. Also the further west you go the more prospect you have of advertising growth for the simple reason that their is more money out that way. Of course this was all sanctioned and okayed not only by the national head offices but by the governming bodies.
I think we would all of us like to see more local tv coverage, its not much fun listening to the woes of people almost in Hampshire, when we have our own woes here.
Editorially I dont think the Meridien paople do a good job anyway. They are obsessed by small time 'human interest' stories very much personised to one person....ie.. "NHS wont pay my drugs bill" kind of thing and although the headline and the story changes the coverage is very much along the same lines. The Editor has twigged that a tug at the heart strings can do good ratings wise so he's carried on from there. Hugely repetitive. Very disappointing programme.

09:3211990Indeed - a bit more intellect and a little less easy sentiment would be appreciated from Meridian!

Both sides (ITV and BBC) DO AT REGULAR INTERVALS ASK for news stories, maybe we should flood them with them.
I have to say i usually watch BBC who were a little better but even they are poor quality now.
Don't get me going on local media as you know my views on parts of the local media.
As for anyone taking them on, sadly others in the past have tried on other parts of the local media and gone as far as the press complaints commission but when they also support what hey do you start to give up.
Thats why a few years ago I stopped buying the local paper
Thats the only protest I can make, and must have had an effect as they are struggling financially.

12:0112008In the dim and distant past when Southern TV had studios here they had a policy of not covering Dover as it might seem that they were biased towards us!

13:3012015i watch both local programmes out of habit.
it has been said here that meridian expanded their "local" area, more or less making it unlikely that decent coverage
of small towns would be possible.
