22:5238215just been advised that a nasty virus(the worst yet) is on the way.
do NOT open an e mail "postcard from hallmark" it will destroy your "C" drive, whatever that is.

23:0038220Hallmark, I think this one was going around a few months ago mate.
Knee jerk reaction, someone gets told about a virus with a name and the whole world goes nutty.
The simple rule applies. IF you DONT know the sender DONT open the attatchment.
Delete it.

23:0738221you are probably right ian, i am a bit gullible, only yesterday someone asked me the question, what has 10 heads 20 legs and about a dozen teeth.
being gullible i asked for the answer, i was told that it was the queue for the methadone counter at boots.
not the sort of stuff to put on here.

22:0238297These sort of warnings are as bad as the viruses themselves. All you have to do is the normal - keep your antivirus software up to date and don't open dodgy attachments. The warnings are usually either fake or started by someone unlucky enough to get caught out by the virus, it doesn't make the virus any better or worse than all the other billions that are out there. Windows 7 with its new "black screen of death" is said to be the ultimate virus in the world at the moment

09:3438341I had that warning email Howard.
You can always type in "hoax viruses" on the search bar and there are a number of sites that will throw up all sorts of hoax viruses - there is one listed about virtual postcards.

16:3938364Spot on Rick, as usual. It cannot be emphasised enough that good anti-virus and firewall programs (NOT supplied by Microsoft) are essential, combined with some commonsense when dealing with email. It's just a pity we can't download commonsense from somewhere too!
