About 15 years ago before going to work, with a friend we used to go all the year round for a swim on the beach.
Looking at it now, I wonder how healthy that realy was?
Dover never looks that clean.

Keef I read only recently that Dover has NOT been awarded a clean water certificate. Im just trying to remember this from scant memory as it was something I glanced at somewhere without paying too much attention to it, but it was quite recently.
The problem was not that the water had gotten particularly worse but that nobody from the council had bothered to apply for 'clean water' status.
Prior to that though I think Dover used to have a good water situation...despite the ferries tooing and froing. Like I said though Im just trying to remember this off the top of my head and only have a vague recollection...Im sure somebody will know more.

I always remembered in more recent years the sewage companies (water companies) trying to convince me it was healthy to pump sewage into the sea
they reckon it got treated, but is it healthy?
i'm not convinced.
Any thoughts?

HOWARD
Thats not the reason i'v grown a third ear then lol
I was at a Port Consultative Committee this morning and it was stated that the Port did not apply for a certificate this year as they dont do so every year and there is no reason to suppose that the water is any poorer.
Dover beach has a super crowd of daily swimmers and they are supported.

Thanks for the info David H and Howard. Good to know that the water is very good. Huge amount of serious pro swimmers using it at the moment so they can rest assured that they wont be getting a third ear like Keef.
When I first moved down here there used to be a happy band of daily swimmers of all ages but probably mostly over 40, who braved all weathers and all elements for their daily swim. But theyve all gone..whatever happened to that brave and hardy bunch. I often wondered if there were any health benefits putting your system through such a punishment but never found out..oh horror of horrors have they all died off prematurely!?
...not due to the quality of the water I might add, but due to the riquors of that daily shock to the system.

Another thread that's been spoiled by inane comments. Posting totally wrong information - Keith - gives the wrong idea to visitors looking in who might be considering coming here to the beach. Luckily David and Howard have told the truth so people now know that Dover is a safe place to swim and enjoy the water. To add to an incorrect posting by making stupid comments is neither amusing or wise
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".
