I have been dealing with Kent Highway Services re the junction of Alkham Valley Road with London Road River /Temple Ewell.
An engineer has visited the site and states the sight Lines are ok and the Stop sign is obeyed
Not an accident spot so nothing will be done .Meanwhile trying to get out of that junction is a nightmare and crossing that busy road is problmatic .

Sue...
That engineer got his facts wrong then didn't he, if you mean the steep hill opposite the pub.
I hope you told him about the idiot who wrote off the Age Concern bus because he did NOT stop because he was looking at his sat-nav, which is a definite

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

I do the junction every day and the road isn't dangerous, just incompentent driver. The road is 30mpg with decent views either way
Been nice knowing you :)

I'll go along with Scotchie. I will say, however, that I have seen drivers NOT stop and wonder if it's because they hill starts are rubbish. Most people manage okay.

Agree with the other comments, there's nothing wrong with the junction unless the driver is impatient or incompetent.

This junction is very smiliar to Crabble .It took years to get those lightsput in place there .
At certain times of the day it is becoming very difficult to get out of River .THe Hill start throws some drivers thus causing a build up of traffic .The brick wall on the righthand side of the junction obscures the site lines looking towatds Dover .If you want to turn right to go to Temple Ewell one has to go right across the road it is very tight here .
The money spent tarting up the sea front needs to be redirected where there are problems as Jan states our Age Concern Bus was written off here .Last year one of our trustees had a car driven into him .

you know very well that the money spent "on tarting up the sea front" was ringfenced by the government.

Accidents can and do happen on perfectly straight, dry, clear, perfect visibility and not fast roads.....
Been nice knowing you :)
The mini-roundabout at the bottom of Whitfield Hill has seen more accidents, and in the last 10 days 3 cars have driven into the arrest pit halfway down the hill. More people have been killed on the Whitfield Hill than the Kearsney junction with London Road.
The speed limt for Whitfield Hill should be changed to 30mph from top to bottom.

Howard keep up Howard .Nigel has his KKC highway fund i think its £25,000and that could be used for more improvements to the roads in the sea front area .I know the tarting up came out of the Sea Change pot ring fenced .What I said was if the KCC members pooled their £25,000 maybe some of our local; roads could be resurfaced .
In awhile I shall travel into Dover Bump Bump Crabble Avenue and Bunkers Hill are a nightmare .

25000 is not a lot, you said earlier that the money should be spent somewhere else other than the seafront.
Howard, I rather get the impression Sue is saying EACH KCC councillor has £25k of our money to throw around as they see fit. If they put it togther it would make a tidy sum and something useful could be done with it. Sort of makes sense.
Mind you, if we're looking to reduce local governement costs, how about stopping this £25k throw-away and reduce council tax a wee jot?

just other dangerous junctions
the one at ladywell/high street
leasing from town hall to laxywell
so many people cross the road from the town hall side to go up town without looking behind them where traffic comes from
friend of mine was knocked over there for doing just that
pedestrians so impatient
That probably means that it isn't the junction that's dangerous but the pedestrians. Almost every time I drive that way past the fire station to turn right into the high street some eejit steps out when the lights change from the High Street without thinking (d'oh!) that the rest of the traffic might move.

spot on keith i am constantly amazed by the actions of pedestrians at busy junctions.
looking left or right seems to have gone out of fashion, ladywell junction is a prime example.
what makes it worse is when someone is in charge of a baby buggy.
Don't get me started Howard - those girls who poke the buggies into the road without a thought for the safety of the poor child inside make me want to stop the car and have a chat with them!
