Today there is a ComRes poll in The Independent. Labour has dropped below 30 percent for the first time since September, back before the bank bail-out. Conservatives are showing a 15% lead. This poll confirms the trend of all recent polls so cannot be regarded as a 'rogue'.

No-one now expects Brown to bounce again. Commentators all seem united in the belief that the game is up for Brown and this Government. Things can only go from bad to worse as the recession bites ever deeper.

Even I did not expect the Brown bounce to reverse to this extent so quickly. Look back at my posts from the end of last year and I was predicting Conservatives back in a double digit lead by March, not by now.

Commentators are now focussing on comments made by Darling about yet another 'Emergency Package' needed in the budget. This of course being an admission of the failure of their previous emergency package. Bear in mind we have also had a third bank bailout package as well.

The Government is behaving in desperation and not through a well thought out economic strategy. Brown himself commented back in the 90's that a weak currency is a sign of a weak Government, he should know, he is delivering both right now.

Some commentators are even suggesting that the Government is itself the biggest problem we have. They are saying that a General Election is needed, a new or renewed Government is required to re-instill the confidence needed to pull us out of recession.

They are making a good point here. Brown is responsible for so much of what has gone wrong with theis Countries economy after 11/12 years of mismanagement. Darling is just his fall guy and equally lost in this crisis.

I drew attention before to the risks of a 'burnt earth' strategy. One journalist has said over the weekend that in the death froes of this Government, lashing out at anything that might save their bacon, they will cause more problems than they resolve. I agree totally with that.

The longer an election is delayed the greater the long term financial damage this country will suffer.
