    A new topic, people...

Is lovely Deal (where I am generally very happy to live) about to fall victim to Dover-style chipboard fetishists...ie: the onset of lots of boarded-up shops in the High Street, a la Dubris Hubris?

I hear very worryingly that an absolute raft of major stores (including two or three serious High Street anchors) - and smaller shops too - are all set to close in the coming weeks as the chill, credit crunchy wind of Grim Gord McBroon's basket case economic mismanagement sweeps locust-like across our region.

Any news? Any answers? If not, I fear Deal will tumble swiftly into charity shop meltdown like its near, ailing neighbour that we struggle so hard to love.

(And before I get a forum brickbat or two from the pointlessly-optimistic out there accusing me of being a doom-monger, I'd just like to say that, frankly, I'm not, and I hope I'm wrong about all this).

Last one to leave Blighty please turn out the lights - there's a good chap...
