20:5534415that was a rather hopeful post, as soon as a winnable town council seat comes up the big hitters of the main parties get involved.
been happening all around the country in recent times, general election coming up, small headlines are needed.
the saying goes thus "success breeds success".

21:0434418As I said in a previous thread - when I was a union rep about 135 years ago, the name of the game was "understand the rules and be better at them than the other guy". That still stands (and is why I am good at what I do now) and local politicians need to understand that. I don't like it, I think the people who play the game well are despicable - and I count myself in that.

08:4034430I have always thought (still do) that politics should stay out of Town and Parish Councils, but the more responsibilities that come down to Town (and Parish) Councils, the more it will become evident that politics will play a part as the two/three parties have very different views, at local level.
We need people who are more interested in the welfare of their Town and its residents and visitors and I also believe that this is manifesting itself much better this year; whether it is because of the current Mayor, or just more co-operation between people.
I'd like to congratulate the Town Council for what it is currently doing and hope it will continue for many years.

08:4234431Ditto Roger. There is always room for improvement, and there is no doubt that political agendas do not help, but much has been achieved - let's look forward to more to come.

09:4234439I starterd this thread purley for information ,however as long as I can recall the Town Councils have always been political. If that was not the case why is there always a ding dong over who is going to be Mayor.Parish Councils are a different matter and when I was on River Parish Council for ten years there was no potical ding dongs .

10:4634447roger takes a very positive attitude towards the mayor and town council.
co-operation should take precedence over party politics.
